Cornell University

Parking

Transportation Services is like the community’s transportation superhero! We take care of everyone’s commuting and parking needs, from faculty and staff to students and visitors. We make sure traffic flows smoothly and enforce parking rules. Plus, we’ve got a bunch of short-term parking options to suit everyone’s needs.

Getting Started

Campus parking is usually only available with a permit or payment. Parking rules and permit limits are in place whenever the university is open and enforced strictly. If you get too many parking tickets, you might not be able to purchase or renew your annual permit, and your car could even get booted or towed. There is an exception in most time-zone areas(Metered/Short Term Options).  Please keep in mind that parking on campus is a privilege not a right.

Alternative Commuting Methods

Parking at Cornell can be difficult, with limited spots and sometimes high costs. The Transportation Department highly suggest you try other ways to get around, like biking or taking public transportation.

General Parking Information

Permit Availability

Parking permits are distributed to eligible faculty, employees, and students on a first-come, first-served, space-available basis. Certain permit areas may impose additional work-in-zone or residency requirements. Should a permit area become unavailable due to capacity or eligibility constraints, please contact the Transportation Department for alternative parking arrangements.

Parking Compliance

Students, faculty, and staff returning to campus are strongly advised to visit myparking.cornell.edu prior to parking to verify their permit and vehicle information. All Parking Regulations are strictly enforced throughout the campus and may be subject to change on nights and weekends. Community members should also anticipate potential traffic and parking disruptions associated with upcoming events. Violations of permit and payment requirements will result in the issuance of fine-due citations.

Vehicle Registration

If you’re bringing your personal car, motorcycle, or motor scooter to campus, make sure to register your license plate with Transportation Services. Whether you’re parking with a permit or using short-term(metered/daily decision) options, it’s important to keep your vehicle info up to date. Just register your plate and update the info whenever needed.

University Holiday Parking

Permit and payment regulations are relaxed during official university holidays. If the university is open for business, permit and payment rules are in effect and will be enforced.
