Mail Metering Services
Postage Metering and Mailing
Mail metering charges US postage to outgoing department external mail for a fee. Your mail is processed and mailed out the same day it’s picked up from your building. The charges are billed to your department’s account monthly. Feel free to reach out for more info, to open an account, or to get more barcode forms.
Getting Started
Mail Metering Guidelines
- To request a department meter account, please contact mailservices@cornell.edu.
- Personal mail is not eligible for metering services.
- Please adhere to all United States Postal Service (USPS) regulations.
- Prepare your mail for metering by ensuring that all letters are facing in the same direction.
- Letter-size envelopes (#10) may be unsealed, but they must have flaps open and nested.
- Do not combine sealed and unsealed envelopes in the same bundle.
- Categorize and sort all outgoing USPS mail based on class (1st, priority, media), weight, and band.
- Bundle each class using paper clips or rubber bands.
- Attach the barcoded request form to the bundles of outgoing mail to be metered.
- Place the mail to be metered in a separate bin from outgoing campus mail.
- Kindly notify Mail Services of large mailings (more than 50 pieces) at least one day in advance of the pick-up date.
