Express/Private Carrier Mail

Private Carrier Mail Services

USPS mail and express or private carrier mail (UPS, FedEx, etc.) is not handled by Mail Services unless it is undeliverable first-class US mail with a Cornell University address.

Getting Started

The United States Postal Service (USPS) offers priority mail services at rates that are competitive with other package delivery companies, and they deliver to mailboxes, mail slots, and Post Office boxes at no extra charge. Download and install the USPS Shipping Assistant or visit USPS.com to open a USPS account, print your Priority Mail label from your desktop, pay for the service, and drop it in your building USPS mail pick-up location.

For university business-related mail, you can use centralized mail metering by attaching a mail metering form to your mail piece, checking the Priority box, and dropping it in your mail bin for pickup. For complete metering information, or to get a mail metering form, contact us or call 254-8284.

Federal Express and UPS both offer overnight and priority delivery services. For information about special pricing for the university and carrier contact information to set up an account, please visit Cornell Purchasing.

Requirements

Call the carrier to arrange for pick up from your university mailroom; unless a carrier provides daily service to your mailroom, your package may sit for several days. Or, use one of the several overnight and express service drop boxes located throughout the Cornell Campus. Call your carrier or check their website for the nearest drop box location.
