For students and families

You will receive specific Move-In instructions for where to start your day, but once you have unloaded your vehicle, you’ll need to move your vehicle to short-term parking for up to three hours so that other students and families can access the residential building. Students and families may walk (about 20 minutes) or use the shuttle to travel between the short-term parking lots and their residential building.

Once you unload your vehicle, follow signs and directions to Feeney Way and then to Campus Road. Parking will be available in several lots along Campus Road, and students and families should follow directions to their designated parking lot. On Monday, use the designated parking lot that matches the color of your Move-In route.  The map below shows the specific parking locations.  You can park for free for up to 3 hours, but after that time, you will need to move your vehicle to make room for other students moving in.

 

For staff and faculty

As Move-In and Orientation activities get underway, faculty and staff should be aware that parking availability, traffic patterns, and transportation services will be temporarily impacted across campus. Increased visitor activity and designated move-in operations may result in road closures, parking restrictions, and delays in some areas. We encourage all faculty and staff to review the information below carefully and plan their commute and parking arrangements in advance. Taking a few moments to familiarize yourself with these temporary changes will help minimize disruptions and support the safe and efficient movement of students, families, guests, and the campus community during this busy time.

What to Expect

  • Closure of typical high-use, on-campus parking options for employees to accommodate Move-In guests. 
  • Heavy traffic on campus and throughout nearby neighborhoods. 
  • Increased pedestrian activity and roadway congestion. 

Working Remotely Helps Support Student Arrival

The most effective way to reduce congestion and preserve access for students, families, volunteers, and employees supporting Move-In and Orientation operations is to reduce the number of vehicles coming to campus.  

Please speak with your supervisor to discuss whether your responsibilities would allow you to work remotely on August 17 and 18.

If You Must Come to Campus

Employees who need to be on campus should plan ahead and allow additional travel time.

Parking demand will be extremely high across campus. Employees are strongly encouraged to plan their commutes with these activities and impacts in mind and to avoid driving on campus if at all possible. 

Alternatives to driving to campus include using a park-and-ride, ride sharing, taking transit, cycling, or walking to campus if you are able, Employees should assume that their typical parking will not be available. 

The following parking lots will be reserved entirely for new students and their families for Move-In and Orientation events on Monday and Tuesday (8/17-8/18):

  • A Lot
  • Hoy Garage
  • Crescent Lot
  • Alumni Field Lot
  • TRB Lot
  • B Lot*

*The western bay of B Lot will be reserved for CVM and Animal Hospital use. 

 

Park and Ride options

There will be four Park and Ride locations available on 8/17 and 8/18 as an alternative to driving to campus. TCAT bus routes and schedules can be found on the TCAT Schedules webpage. See real-time bus locations via the MyStop app or online. TCAT is free for Cornell employees. 

These locations are: 

  • East Hill Plaza Shuttle - A Cornell shuttle will be available from East Hill Plaza to central campus running approximately every 15 minutes on Monday and Tuesday between 4:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.  Additionally, TCAT Route 82 connects East Hill Plaza with Central Campus between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. and is free for Cornell employees.
  • Ithaca High School Route 36/37 – Staff and faculty may park in the Ithaca High School parking lot and select a TCAT route to travel up to campus or to the Commons, such as Route 36/37 with the Lake@Ithaca High School stop. 
  • Cayuga Heights Elementary School Route 31 – Staff and faculty may park in the Cayuga Heights Elementary School parking lot and select a TCAT route to travel up to campus. Route 31 bus has convenient stops nearby, including a designated stop at the Parkway@Northway. The walk to North Campus from the school is also a flat, easy walk.
  • Shops at Ithaca Mall TCAT Route 30 - Employees can also park at the Shops at Ithaca Mall near the old Dick’s Sporting Goods store (see location below) and ride TCAT Route 30.  Service starts at 6:00 a.m. and runs every 10-30 minutes to campus.

In addition to these options, employees may also consider TCAT routes that are available via downtown Ithaca bus stops. TCAT bus routes and schedules can be found on the TCAT Schedules webpage.
