Code Compliance

Project code compliance is the responsibility of project and/or construction managers assigned to a project.

Cornell facilities are classified as Endowed (Cornell privately owned) or Contract College (SUNY and Contract College owned). All Cornell facilities are subject to the requirements of the jurisdiction where they are located.

To find the jurisdiction (the local government, county government, or state agency responsible for the administration and enforcement of applicable regulations and laws) for a facility, go to Find Facility Information, and enter either the facility name or code in the search field. Once on that specific facility’s information page, you will find the jurisdiction listed.

The processes for two of these jurisdictions, the City of Ithaca and the Contract Colleges Facilities Office, are noteworthy. They are:

City of Ithaca
All business between the City of Ithaca Building Division and Cornell University is conducted through weekly meetings that are held every Tuesday, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. in Room 133 Humphreys Service Building. Agenda items should be directed to Paula Slocum,, (607) 255-4504. General questions about the applicability of specific agenda items, meeting process and organization, etc. should be directed to the meeting chair, Randall Nesbitt (contact information listed at right).

Contract Colleges Facilities Office
As the jurisdiction responsible for all Cornell Contract Colleges facilities, the Contract Colleges Facilities Office has appointed Ralph J. D’Amato as the building code official.  Please contact Ralph (contact information listed at right) for all matters of the code and its enforcement for Contract Colleges facilities. For more information about Contract Colleges Facilities Office code compliance, go to Contract Colleges Facilities Office Code Compliance.

Questions about code compliance processes of the other jurisdictions should be directed to Randall Nesbitt (contact information listed at right).
