West Campus PVI Water Heater Replacement
Project Description
1. The work of this project includes a base bid component to replace nine (9) existing PVI domestic water heaters at five (5) west campus buildings with five (5) high efficiency heat exchanger modules for domestic water heating. The project also includes an Alternate to replace one dining water heater.
2. The work includes significant plumbing and mechanical work together with some electrical work to remove and replace circuits and general construction work to remove and install concrete housekeeping pads and remove and replace concrete mechanical room floor in one building for addition of floor drains.
3. The project includes some purging and capping of welded steel interior natural gas lines and addition of two (2) underground sanitary floor drains in one mechanical room. The project includes demolition and removal from site eight (8) water heater tanks of sizes 400 gallons to 900 gallons. One water heater is newer and is being retained as a spare. The project includes certified water balancing.
4. The heat source for the high efficiency heat exchanger modules is from the building heating water system. Tie ins to this system in all buildings is to be performed during the traditional early June Steam Shutdown. Much of the work can be performed without impacting domestic hot water supply to buildings by maintaining one heater in operation while the other unit is being replaced. Therefore, demolition of existing units occurs in two phases in most buildings.
