Paying and Appealing Citations

The campus parking compliance program is provided as a customer service for those people who purchase parking. To ensure parking availability, all campus drivers are expected to park legally. If a parking violation occurs, the driver or registered owner of the vehicle is responsible for payment.

New York State has granted Cornell the right to enforce its parking rules. This is spelled out in our Rules and Regulations.

Getting Started:

    Paying Parking Tickets

Payment must be received within 21 calendar days of the issue date on the ticket or a $10 late fee will be added to the fine. Citations can be paid:

    • In person by cash, check, or credit card at Transportation Services
    • By check through the mail
    • By Visa, MasterCard, or Bursar account at myparking.cornell.edu. Log in using your CU NetID and password.
    • Over the phone by Visa, MasterCard or Bursar account.

    Appealing Parking Tickets

A citation appeal may be made within 10 calendar days of the issue date on the ticket. The right to appeal is forfeited after 10 days. All appeals must be submitted in writing; we do not accept oral appeals. Please allow up to three weeks for a response.

Complete the online appeals form (CU NetID or guest account login required) to submit a written appeal explaining why the ticket was issued in error. Be sure to include documentation, such as photographs or receipts, to show that the cited rule was not violated.

Appeals made for the reasons listed below will not be considered:

    • Lack of knowledge of parking regulations
    • Disagreement with regulations
    • Other cars also improperly parked
    • Late to class or appointment
    • Disagreement with or inability to pay the fine
    • Parked illegally for only a few minutes

If you feel there was an error made in the decision, you have 10 calendar days from the date of the decision to re-appeal. Only cases for which new, relevant factual evidence has been submitted can be reconsidered.

    • Citation payments are for the full amount due; partial payments are not accepted.
    • Unpaid citations accrue a $10 late fee after 21 days.
