Cornell Utilities Issues Water Advisory Due to Drought Conditions
Cornell University Water System
Limited Water Advisory
As a result of a prolonged period of severely diminished rainfall and the record low level of Fall Creek, the Cornell University Water System has issued a Limited Water Advisory. Please be advised of the following:
Until further notice, the following non-essential uses of potable water must be limited or ceased.
- Watering of lawns, plantings, etc.
- Washing of vehicles or using a power washer.
- Recreational uses such as lawn games.
- Letting faucets run unattended.
- Running personal-use ice machines in low use or unoccupied areas.
Please limit your overall use of water to essential needs only, especially during daylight hours.
- Report any water leakages such as a running toilet, leaking faucet, or other issues in your building or on campus here. A single, slow dripping faucet can waste up to 10 gallons per day.
- If you are currently living or working in a residence hall on campus, shorten your shower time to 3-5 minutes, and encourage others to do the same.
- If there are low-flow toilets in your building, prioritize their use! Every drop counts!
In the event of any changes in the state of the Limited Water Advisory, an updated announcement will be issued. The Cornell Water System has contingencies to continue to provide potable water to all of its customers for essential purposes only. Please assist us and the Cornell community by adhering to this advisory.
Please share this information with all people who use water provided by Cornell but who may not directly receive this notice. Building coordinators should post a copy of the notice where all may see.
